Whirlpool Electric Range PLT083-2

Problem with timer

My oven will not get to the correct cooking temperature. It flashes an 888 number on the dial and then goes into the F1 error mode. If I hit the bake button and set the oven the F1 error will go off but the oven does not heat to the proper temperature. However both top and bottom elements are working.
