Dometic Refrigerator RM3862 Refrigerator
interior light

3 wires going to light switch, gray, black, red. Light works only when disconnected from its terminal. What is black wire for? If black wire is left connected light does not go out when door is closed.
I have "two" Dometic RM3662 refrigerators in my Alfa 5th wheel. Both had the same problem. I figured out, after much research and headaches, that there are two sources for power for the interior light. The door switch is one source, but it is also powered from the L.A.T. or Low Ambient Switch. This refrigerator has a Low Ambient Temperature Switch that is supposed to be turned on when the outside temperature stays below 50 degrees. It was in the on postion on both of my refrigerators, when I bought the RV. I just left them alone. It appears that all the Low Ambient Switch does is turn on the interior light 24/7! By doing so, the small amount of heat generated by the bulb is sufficient to fool the refrigerator into running, to some how compensate for the low ambient temperatures. On my refrigerators, the Low Ambient Switch and Climate Control Switch are mounted side by side. But you have to "open" the freezer door to see them and flip them on or off.
If your refrigerator light does not turn off when you close the door, it may be because the "Low Ambient Switch" is turned on! Also, if you have a small unexplained approximately 1 amp draw on your 12 volt system, check to see if the Low Ambient Switch is on. Hope this helps!
